  • Pre-Season Outlook

    Few offseason developments were as surprising as Green Bay's decision to release Jones, and they presumably were hoping the explosive runner would go anywhere other than the NFC North. Unfortunately for them, the Vikings were quick to pounce on Jones, hoping to pick a thorn out from their side and throw it back at Green Bay in the process. It remains to be seen just how much gas Jones has left as he enters his eighth NFL season, with age 30 approaching in December, but Jones remained highly effective for Green Bay on a per-play basis in 2023. The problem for Jones in 2023 was once again durability, as a hamstring injury cost him almost all of the first month before an MCL sprain kept Jones out from Weeks 11 to 14. Jones remained excellent when he was on the field, especially during his five-game stretch of 100-yard games to end the season, so there's no obvious indication of decline yet with Jones. The Vikings offense is in a flux with Kirk Cousins gone to Atlanta, so going from Green Bay to the Vikings was probably a downgrade for Jones' fantasy interests, but he at least should be able to establish himself as Minnesota's clear starting runner.

    Analysis: Per Schefter, Jones' deal with Minnesota is worth $7 million.     Analysis: Jones averaged an impressive 7.2 yards per carry while repeatedly gashing the Carolina run defense. He curiously wasn't targeted in the passing game but made up for that with his fourth multi-touchdown game of the season. Jones now has 14 total touchdowns on the season, tying him with Christian McCaffrey for the most in the NFL. He will face a difficult matchup in Week 12 against the 49ers after the upcoming bye.

    Analysis: The Packers' offense got shut out in the first half and didn't have much more success after halftime, and as a result, Jones wound up with arguably his worst performance of the season.     Jones (shoulder) put in a full practice Friday and doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Chargers, Olivia Reiner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

    Analysis: Jones was a limited participant in the Packers' first two practices of Week 9, but there never seemed to be much overwhelming concern about his availability to play Sunday. Expect Jones to serve in his usual capacity as the Packers' lead running back, though he could see his involvement in the passing game scaled back a little bit if top wideout Davante Adams (toe) -- who is being viewed as a game-time decision -- is cleared to play after a four-week absence.
