Quiet year after Week 5
Brown finished the 2022 season with five catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 14 targets.
Analysis: The 2021 third-round pick made 15 appearances without ever playing even one-third of Washington's offensive snaps, though he did nearly lead the team to victory with TD catches of 75 and 30 yards in a 21-17 loss to the Titans in Week 5. Brown had caught just one pass before that and added only two more the rest of the season, while rookie wideout Jahan Dotson emerged as the big-play threat opposite Terry McLaurin with a 35-523-7 receiving line in 12 games. Brown may find himself on the roster…read more

Limited role in passing attack
Brown played 14 of the Commanders' 60 snaps on offense and finished with a 17-yard reception in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Brown has logged just 19 combined snaps on offense in Washington's past two games and doesn't look as though he'll be in store for much playing time so long as fellow receivers Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and Jahan Dotson are available moving forward.

Just one catch in Week 10
Brown played 16 of the Commanders' 83 snaps on offense and finished with a 15-yard reception on his lone target in Monday's 32-21 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Brown's 20 percent snap share played him fifth among Washington wideouts behind Terry McLaurin (86 percent), Curtis Samuel (64 percent), Jahan Dotson (41 percent) and Cam Sims (33 percent). Considering that Dotson was eased back into the mix with a light workload in his return from a five-game absence, both Sims and Brown look like candidates to see their roles reduced further with Dotson's playing time expected to increase in the weeks to come.

Held without a catch
Brown finished without a catch on one target in Sunday's 20-17 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: Brown and Cam Sims essentially split the No. 3 WR role with Jahan Dotson (hamstring) missing another game, only it was Dax Milne who found the end zone on his lone target while playing just 16 percent of snaps. None of the bunch projects for much target volume in an offense built around Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and the running backs. Brown at least seems to have moved past the groin injury that held him out Week 8, so it's possible he takes more snaps away from Sims if Dotson misses…read more

Cleared from injury report
Brown (groin) isn't listed on the Commanders' Week 9 injury report.
Analysis: Brown thus stands to return Sunday against the Vikings, after missing consecutive games. If Jahan Dotson (hamstring) is out another week, the team will turn to Brown and/or Cam Sims to share duties as their No. 3 receiver.

Inactive in Week 8
Brown (groin) is inactive for Sunday's Week 8 clash against the Colts, Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The speedy second-year wideout will join rookie Jahan Dotson (hamstring) on the sideline, which leaves Taylor Heinicke short-handed going into what is already a tough matchup against the Colts defense. In Brown's absence, Curtis Samuel, Cam Sims and even tight end Logan Thomas should all be in line for a bump in opportunity behind top target Terry McLaurin.

Iffy for Week 8
The Commanders list Brown (groin) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: After not practicing in any capacity last week before sitting out the Commanders' eventual win over the Packers, Brown was back on the field as a limited participant this week. It's unclear if the increased practice activity will be enough for Brown to gain clearance to play Sunday, but if he does, he'll likely be stepping into the No. 3 role at receiver behind Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel while rookie first-round pick Jahan Dotson (hamstring) misses a fourth consecutive game.

Takes limited reps Thursday
Brown (groin) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Brown's limited activity marks no change from Wednesday, but his ability to maintain that level of participation is at least a positive sign after he failed to practice in any capacity last week before sitting out Washington's win over the Packers. If Brown gets cleared to play Sunday in Indianapolis, he could serve as the Commanders' No. 3 wideout behind Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel with rookie first-round pick Jahan Dotson (hamstring) trending toward missing his fourth consecutive game.

Limited Wednesday
Brown (groin) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Brown didn't suit up for Washington's Week 7 win over Green Bay due to a groin issue he picked up a week prior, but he's returned to practice in a limited fashion ahead of Week 8. However, the second-year wideout will likely have to log at least one full session over the next two days to be cleared for Sunday's matchup against the Colts.

Won't play this week
Brown (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Green Bay, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With Jahan Dotson (hamstring) listed as questionable and perhaps more on the doubtful side, Brown might've had a chance to step up as the No. 3 receiver this week. Instead, Cam Sims is most likely to get that opportunity if Dotson is inactive or limited come Sunday.

Doesn't practice Thursday
Brown (groin) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Brown has yet to step on the practice field this week while he tends to a groin injury, giving him just one more chance to do so before the Commanders potentially make a ruling on his availability for Sunday's game versus the Packers. Fellow wide receiver Jahan Dotson (hamstring) maintained limited status from Wednesday to Thursday, meaning Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel could be doing much of the heavy lifting for the team at wide receiver this weekend.

Dealing with groin injury
Brown didn't practice Wednesday due to a groin injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: After catching two touchdowns Week 5, Brown played just three offensive snaps during Washington's win over Chicago. The wideout's lack of participation Wednesday coupled with his limited role Week 6 suggests he picked up the groin injury in the win over Chicago. The extent of the issue remains unclear, but he'll have two more opportunities to attempt to practice before the Commanders need to make a decision on his status for a Week 7 matchup with the Packers.

Plays only three snaps
Brown played only three snaps on offense in Thursday's 12-7 win over Chicago, finishing with one incomplete target.
Analysis: Brown was the star for Washington four days earlier, catching two of four targets for 105 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-17 loss to Tennessee. Even then he played only 32 percent of snaps with Jahan Dotson (hamstring) out of the lineup, while Cam Sims took 59 percent. Brown then showed up on the Week 6 injury report with a quad injury, which likely was a factor in his playing time being scaled back Thursday. Suiting up Thursday
Brown (groin) is listed as active Thursday at Chicago.
Analysis: With Brown's status confirmed after he was limited during Week 6 prep due to a groin issue, he'll look to fill the void left behind by Jahan Dotson (hamstring) and tight end Logan Thomas (calf), both of whom are inactive Thursday. A rookie third-round pick, Brown opened his career with just one catch on four targets through the first four appearances, but he broke out this past Sunday against the Titans with a 2-105-2 line on four targets.

On track to play
Brown (groin), who is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Bears, is expected to play, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Washington has already ruled out wideout Jahan Dotson (hamstring) and tight end Logan Thomas (calf) for the second straight week, but Brown looks like he'll avoid an absence due to the groin issue that resulted in him being listed as a limited practice participant Monday through Wednesday. While Dotson was sidelined for the Week 5 loss to the Titans, Brown stepped up to deliver 75- and 30-yard touchdown receptions, but he didn't reel in either of his other two targets across his 20 snaps on…read more

Questionable for Thursday's game
Brown (groin) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Bears.
Analysis: Brown was the star for Washington in Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Titans, scoring touchdowns from 75 and 30 yards out while playing only 34 percent of snaps on offense. He and Cam Sims split playing time filling in for Jahan Dotson, who is set to miss a second straight game with a hamstring injury. Brown's big Week 5 could lead to more snaps Thursday, if he's able to overcome the groin injury and play.

Limited in practice again
Brown (groin) logged another limited practice Tuesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Brown was also a limited participant on the team's estimated practice report Monday. With the team taking the field Thursday against the Bears, his inability to log a full practice two days out will make his status for Wednesday worth watching. This is especially true with Jahan Dotson (hamstring) still unable to practice, because if both were to sit, Cam Sims and Dax Milne would be worth a look in single-game DFS contests Thursday.

Limited on practice estimate
Brown (groin) was listed as limited on Monday's practice estimate, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: In Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Titans, Brown logged two catches on four targets for 105 yards and two TDs, while seeing action on 20 snaps on offense. Now that he's popped up on the Commanders' Week 6 injury report, the 2021 third-rounder's status is worth tracking ahead of Thursday's game against the Bears, especially in the wake of his Week 5 breakout effort.

Catches two long scores
Brown recorded two catches on four targets for 105 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Brown made the most of his opportunities and tallied touchdowns of 75 and 30 yards. He has taken advantage of the absence of Jahan Dotson (hamstring) to earn four targets in consecutive games. While that volume isn't enough to give Brown a chance to remain consistently productive, it does represent an increase in his involvement in Washington's offense.

Draws season-high four targets
Brown corralled one of his four targets for a six-yard reception in Sunday's 25-10 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: The reception and the targets were the first of the season for Brown, who hadn't drawn a look in the passing game while playing 16 snaps on offense in Washington's first three games. He was still on the field for less than 30 percent of the time in Week 4, but Brown could see his playing time pick up Week 5 against the Titans. The Commanders are unlikely to have rookie wideout Jahan Dotson (hamstring) available for that contest and could turn to Brown to serve as his primary replacement.

Plays one snap
Brown played one snap on offense in a 36-27 loss to Detroit on Sunday.
Analysis: The 2021 third-round pick has seen four offensive snaps and no targets through two weeks, and he hasn't played all that much on special teams either. Brown's roster spot could come into question this season, depending on Washington's health at wide receiver and needs at other positions.

Drops two passes
Brown caught two of five targets for 42 yards in Saturday's 17-15 loss to Baltimore in the preseason finale.
Analysis: Brown made a nice snag on his first target but then dropped a couple passes. It's not a great sign, in any case, that he was on the field in a game where all starters were rested. The 2021 third-round pick likely has a roster spot, but only as the fourth or fifth receiver in an offense without much potential.

Struggles against Chiefs
Brown caught two of six targets for nine yards in a preseason loss to Kansas City on Saturday.
Analysis: While the 2021 third-round pick reportedly has displayed progress at training camp, he has only 23 yards from nine targets through two preseason games. Cam Sims, meanwhile, scored a TD on Saturday, making his own case for the No. 4 WR role. The top three appears pretty set with Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel, leaving Brown, Sims and others to compete for depth roles.

Making case for role
Brown had a good first week of training camp, making a number of catches downfield, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
Analysis: The 2021 third-round pick had minimal impact as a rookie, despite getting some starts at the beginning and end of the season. He'll likely be a backup again if everyone is healthy, potentially coming off the bench to provide a deep threat as the No. 4 receiver. Granted, the Commanders don't lack for speed in their starting WR group, with Terry McLaurin joined by Curtis Samuel and first-round pick Jahan Dotson. Gets some run with starters
Brown isn't likely to have an every-down role this year, but he did run with the first-team offense in Terry McLaurin's absence throughout most of the offseason program, Ethan Cadeaux of NBC Sports reports.
Analysis: The 2021 third-round pick actually opened his rookie season as a starter, but he lost the job after a slow start and then dealt with a knee injury. Brown ultimately caught only 12 of 25 targets for 165 yards in 15 games (six starts), and the Commanders then took WR Jahan Dotson in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The team likely envisions a top three comprised of Terry McLaurin, Dotson and a finally healthy Curtis Samuel, with Brown perhaps coming off the bench as a part-time deep threat.…read more

Disappointing debut campaign
Brown finished his 2021 rookie season with 12 catches for 165 yards on 25 targets, playing 15 of 17 games and logging 335 snaps on offense.
Analysis: The third-round pick started his first three games and five of his first six, yet entered the midpoint of the season with only eight catches for 81 yards. Brown then averaged only 11.2 snaps on offense over his final 10 games, stuck in a bench role even as Washington had minimal success finding productive pass catchers apart from top WR Terry McLaurin. Catches two passes
Brown played 13 snaps in Sunday's 56-14 loss to Dallas and caught both his targets for 53 yards.
Analysis: It's been a quiet rookie year for the third-round pick, even though he got plenty of playing time early on. He's been either injured or buried on the depth chart since October, but Brown finally made a big play with his 48-yard gain in the first quarter of Sunday's loss. While a starting job may not be in the cards this year, it is possible Brown gets a little more playing time over the final couple weeks of the season, perhaps stealings snaps from DeAndre Carter.

Catches only target
Brown caught his only target for six yards during Sunday's 17-15 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: Brown played just six offensive snaps, sixth most among Washington's wideouts. The rookie third-round pick has continued to see his playing time significantly drop off since the beginning of the season and remains a long shot for a breakout down the stretch. Limited to eight snaps
Brown played eight snaps on offense without drawing any targets in Sunday's 29-19 win over the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Curtis Samuel (groin) was out again, but Washington otherwise had all its wide receivers healthy and chose to use DeAndre Carter (3-56-1 on six targets and 67 percent snap share) as its No. 2 receiver. Brown, Dax Milne (27 percent) and Cam Sims (18 percent) also rotated in for some snaps, but it was mostly Carter and slot specialist Adam Humphries (52 percent) lining up alongside No. 1 receiver Terry McLaurin (96 percent). Analysis: With Curtis Samuel (groin) out at least one more week, Brown could have a starting spot if he ends up playing. Analysis: Brown is back at practice after a bye week, having missed Week 8 with the knee injury beforehand. He may be a starter if he makes it back for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, as Curtis Samuel (groin) appears unlikely to play this weekend. Brown (knee) won't participate in Thursday's practice, Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Since he's starting the week with a pair of absences from practice, Brown will presumably need to take part in Friday's session in at least a limited capacity just to take a questionable designation into Sunday's matchup with the Saints. With all of Brown, Curtis Samuel (groin) and Cam Sims (hamstring) tending to injuries and having yet to fully practice this week, DeAndre Carter or Dax Milne could see added reps in three-receiver sets alongside Terry McLaurin and Adam Humphries if none of the…read more

Misses practice with knee injury
Brown (knee) isn't practicing Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Brown and Cam Sims (hamstring) both suffered injuries in the second half of the Week 4 win over Atlanta, which also happened to be Curtis Samuel's first game in a Washington uniform. Even if he returns to health quickly, Brown may be the team's fourth or fifth wide receiver at this point.

Sustains knee injury
Brown won't return to Sunday's game in Atlanta due to a knee injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Prior to his departure, Brown hauled in one of two passes for 19 yards. The rookie third-rounder hasn't done much through four games, with a cumulative 5-51-0 receiving line on 13 targets and one carry for minus-4 yards. With Cam Sims (hamstring) also ruled out of this contest, Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, Adam Humphries and DeAndre Carter are Washington's healthy and active wide receivers.

Finishes without a catch
Brown finished without a catch on two targets and took one carry for a loss of four yards in Sunday's 43-21 loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: The rookie third-round pick hasn't done much through his first three games, despite handling the No. 2 receiver role -- at least in terms of snaps -- while Curtis Samuel (groin) has been on injured reserve throughout September. Samuel is eligible to return Week 4 at Atlanta, but it won't come as any surprise if he misses another game, which could allow Brown to make another start. The rookie has caught just four of his 12 targets for 32 yards.

Puts up 34 yards
Brown caught three of six targets for 34 yards in Thursday's 30-29 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Brown finished fifth on the team in receiving and tied for fourth in targets, again working with Terry McLaurin and Adam Humphries as part of Washington's regular trio for three-wide sets. Curtis Samuel (groin) can return from IR as soon as Week 4, but while he eventually figures to take a lot of Brown's snaps, it isn't yet clear when Samuel will be ready. Washington does have Cam Sims as an option for perimeter snaps if Brown can't get going soon, but even if the latter isn't seeing many…read more

Handles every-down role
Brown caught just one of four targets for a two-yard loss in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Chargers, but he did play 93 percent of Washington's snaps on offense.
Analysis: The rookie third-round pick actually tied Terry McLaurin for second on the team in targets, as QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Taylor Heinicke combined for only 21 pass attempts in a game where Washington emphasized Antonio Gibson but got smashed in the possession battle anyway. While the rookie didn't exactly shine in his regular-season debut, Brown did have a solid grip on the No. 2 receiver role from a playing time standpoint, with Cam Sims poaching just two snaps all afternoon. Of course, Brown…read more

In the mix to start?
Brown and Cam Sims are the top candidates to see more snaps after Curtis Samuel (groin) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Peter Hailey of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Analysis: Samuel has filled a few different roles over the years, and in Washington he was expected to be the No. 2 receiver, likely taking a lot of perimeter snaps given that slot specialist Adam Humphries also is on the team. Samuel's absence could lead to more touches for Humphries and satellite back J.D. McKissic, but Brown and Sims are more likely to benefit in terms of snap count. Brown is a rookie third-round pick, while Sims is a fourth-year pro who started 10 games last season but averaged just…read more

Another pair of catches
Brown recorded two receptions on four targets for 33 yards in Friday's preseason game against Cincinnati.
Analysis: Brown had mixed results in his second professional game. He began the contest with a drop -- albeit on a tough opportunity -- but he bounced back to record a 29-yard catch over cornerback Darius Phillips. With Curtis Samuel (groin) still sidelined, Brown had valuable reps with presumed starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Though he may start the season in a reserve role, Brown figures to have the chance to enter three-receiver sets at some point in the campaign.

Catches two passes
Brown caught two of four targets for 16 yards in Thursday's preseason loss to New England.
Analysis: The rookie third-round pick had a seven-yard gain late in the first quarter on a completion from QB Taylor Heinicke, who then missed Brown on a deep pass on the very next snap. The two later hooked up for nine yards on a 3rd-and-3 shortly before halftime, setting up Washington's first TD of the night. It was a solid first showing for Brown, especially given that none of Washington's other wide receivers had big games. He might even get some reps as the No. 2 receiver if Curtis Samuel (groin)…read more
