Switching to offense in 2022
The Falcons announced Thursday that Williams will move to running back for the 2022 season.
Analysis: The 2021 fifth-round pick appeared in 15 games for the Falcons as a rookie and registered 22 tackles (eight solo) and one pass defense. The defensive back also operated as a return man, totaling 490 kick-return yards and 153 punt-return yards. Atlanta will look to capitalize on his return abilities by seeing what the Boise State product can do as a running back in 2022. The Falcons had success utilizing former return-specialist Cordarrelle Patterson in a multitude of ways last season and could…read more

Full participant Wednesday
Williams practiced in full Wednesday, and he appears to be no longer bogged down by his hamstring injury, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Williams last played in the Falcons' Week 4 matchup against Washington, tallying seven tackles. With fellow cornerback A.J. Terrell in concussion protocol, he may have to jump right into a prominent role in the secondary.

Coach optimistic about return
Williams (hamstring) could return in Week 8 against the Panthers, per coach Arthur Smith, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Williams hasn't suited up since Week 4, but he could be ready to return to his role in Atlanta's secondary and as a kick returner on special teams against the NFC South rival Panthers. The rookie fifth-round pick's participation, or lack thereof, in practice throughout the week should provide clues as to whether or not Smith's optimism regarding Williams' health is warranted.

Downgraded to out
Williams (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Dolphins, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Despite the bye week, Williams will miss his second straight contest with the hamstring injury. Atlanta's secondary is healthy outside of Williams, so his absence shouldn't impact its defensive rotations, but Fabian Moreau will likely once again take over punt-returning duties from the rookie.

Doubtful for Week 7
Williams (hamstring) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Williams was also listed as doubtful for Atlanta's Week 5 game against the Jets and went on to sit that one out. Despite having an extra week to recover during Atlanta's Week 6 bye, the rookie defensive back and kick returner will most likely miss a second consecutive game barring an unexpected improvement in his hamstring's health.

Inactive Sunday
Williams (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Analysis: With Isaiah Oliver (knee) on IR and Williams unavailable, look for Fabian Moreau and T.J. Green to log added cornerback snaps Sunday. Williams, who has recorded eight tackles in four games this season, will now target a return to action after the Falcons' bye when the team takes on Miami in Week 7.

Doubtful against Jets
Williams (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Jets, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With safety Erik Harris (calf) also listed as doubtful, the Falcons' depth in the secondary will be tested across the pond. Williams has also been working as the team's punt returner, so Atlanta will need to find someone else to handle that role if Williams sits out Sunday as expected. Cordarrelle Patterson has extensive experience as a return man, but Atlanta may not want to pile more onto his plate given Patterson's significant involvement on offense as both a running back and wide receiver.
