Aiming for No. 3 spot
Hasty (collarbone) is the favorite to secure San Francisco's No. 3 running back job, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Raheem Mostert (ankle) will be back for the 2021 campaign, and Jeff Wilson signed a one-year extension back in January. With Tevin Coleman now a Jet, the door is open for Hasty to secure the No. 3 job in the backfield. However, his projected role will get cloudy if the 49ers select a running back in the upcoming draft. As an undrafted rookie out of Baylor, Hasty flashed some upside in limited action last year, rushing 39 times for 148 yards and a touchdown and catching seven of eight passes for…read more

Gets some run as rookie
Hasty played in seven games during his rookie season, finishing with 148 rushing yards and a touchdown on 39 carries and 33 more yards on seven receptions.
Analysis: San Francisco protected Hasty on its practice squad to begin the year, and the undrafted rookie was quickly called upon after several injuries opened up playing time. The 24-year-old wasn't asked to do too much, but he was able to display his shiftiness and soft hands in limited action. The 49ers will have decisions to make regarding a couple of aging veteran backs this offseason, so Hasty may have an opportunity to earn a backfield rotation spot (or at least another shot on the practice squad)…read more

Heads to injured reserve
The 49ers placed Hasty (collarbone) on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Now that he's on IR, Hasty will need to remain there for three weeks before the team can open a 21-day window to return him to the active roster. With the 49ers on bye Week 11, he'll potentially only miss two games as a result, with his earliest possible next appearance lining up to be Sunday, Dec. 13 against Washington. Currently, San Francisco has one fully healthy RB in Austin Walter, two injured backs -- Tevin Coleman (knee) and Jerick McKinnon (neck) -- on the active roster, and three…read more

Hurts shoulder against Saints
Hasty (collarbone) left Sunday's game against the Saints to go to the locker room, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Hasty rushed three times for 13 yards and caught both of his targets for minus-4 yards before exiting. Jerick McKinnon should handle an even larger portion of San Francisco's backfield snaps with the backup running back unavailable, and Hasty can be considered questionable to return at this time.

Underwhelms in loss
Hasty rushed just four times for three yards and brought in both of his targets for 10 yards in the 49ers' 34-17 loss to the Packers on Thursday night. He also returned one kickoff for 21 yards.
Analysis: Hasty was set to share backfield duties with Jerick McKinnon in what was assumed to be a more even split, but ultimately, the latter logged eight more carries. Hasty had seen no fewer than nine rush attempts in the three games prior to Thursday's, so the downturn in his opportunities against Green Bay's vulnerable rush defense was especially discouraging. Hasty will hope to garner more total touches in a Week 10 battle against the Saints in 10 days if both Raheem Mostert (IR-ankle) and Tevin…read more

Sharing work with McKinnon on TNF
Hasty and Jerick McKinnon are expected to share the load at running back Thursday against the Packers, Matt Maiocco of NBC Bay Area reports.
Analysis: With Tevin Coleman (knee) exiting early in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, Hasty and McKinnon finished the contest as the 49ers' only healthy backs. McKinnon held a 35-29 advantage in snaps, but Hasty was the clear lead option on the ground, carrying 12 times (for 29 yards and a touchdown) to McKinnon's three (for minus-1 yard and a touchdown). The 49ers have ruled Coleman out for Thursday's game while Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Jeff Wilson (ankle) remain on injured reserve, so another Hasty and…read more

Leads backfield in touches
Hasty carried the ball 12 times for 29 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 against the Seahawks. He added one reception for two yards.
Analysis: Hasty accounted for 12 of the team's 22 rushing attempts, leading the backfield. However, he failed to produce much with the opportunity, averaging only 2.4 yards per attempt with his longest rush going for only five yards. Hasty salvaged his performance with a one-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. With Tevin Coleman (knee) suffering a setback, Hasty should serve a substantial role again in a Week 9 matchup against the Packers on Thursday.

Totals 73 scrimmage yards
Hasty carried nine times for 57 yards and turned his only target into a 16-yard gain during Sunday's 33-6 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Hasty gashed the Patriots for 6.3 yards per carry and got an increase in opportunites after Jeff Wilson Jr. (ankle) left the game with an injury. Wilson Jr. joins Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Tevin Coleman (knee) in the training room, which could open the door for Hasty to take on a featured role for next Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks. Coleman could return for that game, but he's been on injured reserve for a month and seems unlikely to play a major role even if he is activated.

Gets increased opportunity in win
Hasty rushed nine times for 37 yards in Sunday's 24-16 win over the Rams.
Analysis: Raheem Mostert (ankle) had to sit out the entire second half, opening the door for Hasty to get on the field for 21 percent of the offensive snaps. The undrafted rookie put his skills on display by hitting the holes his offensive linemen opened hard. While he didn't log a reception, Hasty does possess soft hands, which would be a route to earning more playing time even when the backfield is healthy. It didn't seem as if Mostert's injury was too serious, but Hasty may have carved out a small…read more

Ascends to active roster
The 49ers promoted Hasty to the active roster Saturday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: This move was expected with Raheem Mostert (knee) ruled out and Tevin Coleman (knee) still on IR. Hasty suited up in Week 3 against the Giants and recorded nine yards on two carries and caught his lone target for nine yards. He'll once again be considered the third-string running back behind Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson during Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Reverts to practice squad, for now
Hasty reverted back to San Francisco's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.
Analysis: Hasty might shuffle right back up to the 53-man roster for the upcoming game against the Eagles depending on how the injuries to the running backs in front of him shake out. Raheem Mostert (knee) and Jerick McKinnon (ribs) are both questionable, while Tevin Coleman (knee) is on IR, so Hasty could be called upon to back up Jeff Wilson if neither of the first two guys suits up.

Three touches in debut
Hasty rushed twice for nine yards and caught his lone target for nine yards in Sunday's 36-9 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Hasty was elevated from the practice squad after the 49ers lost both Raheem Mostert (knee) and Tevin Coleman (knee) to injuries Week 2. The undrafted rookie didn't receive enough touches to make a fantasy impact, but he does possess a fantasy-friendly skill set of speed and soft hands. It was clear that Jerick McKinnon (ribs) and Jeff Wilson were the lead backs in the victory, but if the former is forced to miss Sunday's upcoming matchup against the Eagles, then Hasty would be next in line to…read more

Elevated to active roster
The 49ers elevated Hasty to their active roster Saturday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: With Raheem Mostert (knee) and Tevin Coleman (knee) ruled out, Hasty will help provide depth in the backfield behind Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson. The team originally stashed him on their practice squad due to his combination of speed and pass-catching ability.

Could get promoted soon
Hasty could be called up from the practice squad with the 49ers having just two healthy running backs on the roster heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Giants, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The 49ers were ravaged by injuries in a Week 2 victory over the Jets. With Raheem Mostert (knee) doubtful to suit up and Tevin Coleman (knee) already ruled out for multiple weeks, the club is left with Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson as the only healthy backs this week. Hasty was stashed on the practice squad due to his combination of speed and pass-catching ability. The undrafted Baylor product could immediately see touches if promoted in an offense that prefers to deploy a three-back…read more

Joins 49ers' practice squad
The 49ers retained Hasty on their initial practice squad, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Hasty impressed the 49ers during training camp with his quickness and soft hands, but a crowded veteran backfield led to the undrafted rookie to be cut and eventually moved to the practice squad. San Francisco's current backs aren't the models of good health, so Hasty could find himself called upon (or poached by another club) at some point this season.

Can't secure roster spot
Hasty was waived by the 49ers on Saturday.
Analysis: Hasty signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in April and was impressive in training camp, featuring elusiveness and a strong pass-catching ability. Despite the strong showing, the 49ers are keeping only experienced running backs with Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson making the final roster. The 49ers will look to retain Hasty on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Making case for roster spot
Hasty has made a strong impression with his elusiveness and pass-catching skill during training camp, building up a case for a roster spot, Matt Barrow and David Lombardi of The Athletic report.
Analysis: The report suggests Hasty has been more noticeable than fellow undrafted rookie Salvon Ahmed, who is taller (5-11), thinner (195 lbs.) and perhaps more fluid. The 5-foot-8, 205-pound Hasty offers explosiveness in a compact frame, and the $90k guarantee on his UDFA contract hints at real potential to earn a roster spot. Doing so likely would mean pushing Jerick McKinnon or Jeff Wilson out of a job, so it's still possible the 49ers try to fit Hasty on the practice squad instead. The Baylor…read more
