Heading to Green Bay
Nauta signed with the Packers' practice squad Tuesday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 23-year-old was waived by the Lions over the weekend but will now be joining the Packers as the two teams play each other Week 14. Nauta appeared in seven games this season and caught one pass for three yards while bouncing between Detroit's active roster and practice squad.

Hits waivers again
Nauta was waived by the Lions on Saturday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Nauta has ping-ponged between the practice squad, active roster and waivers for much of the season. Expect to see the tight end back on Detroit's practice squad should he pass through waivers.

Inks deal with active roster
The Lions signed Nauta to the active roster Saturday.
Analysis: Nauta has played in two games for the Lions this year, so he'll officially sign with the active roster ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Colts. He adds depth at tight end behind T.J. Hockenson and Jesse James, although Nauta's offensive role is limited when those two are healthy.

Slides back to practice squad
Nauta reverted to the Lions' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Analysis: Nauta has made appearances in consecutive games following Detroit's Week 5 bye, meaning the door remains open for him to return in the near future. The 23-year-old fielded 18 offensive snaps without tallying a reception in his season debut against the Jaguars, and this past Sunday against the Falcons he recorded a three-yard catch. Nauta may fluctuate on and off the active roster this season depending upon need, but that's only as long as another NFL team doesn't try to nab him off the Lions'…read more

Elevates from practice squad
The Lions elevated Nauta to the active roster Saturday, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Hunter Bryant (concussion) was placed back on injured reserve last week, so Nauta will add depth at tight end during Sunday's game versus the Falcons. This will be Nauta's second straight game with the active roster, as he logged 18 offensive snaps last week but wasn't targeted.

Reverts to practice squad
Nauta reverted to the Lions' practice squad Monday, per the
Analysis: Nauta was activated for Sunday's win over the Jaguars and played in 18 offensive snaps, although he failed to record a stat in the contest. T.J. Hockenson and Jesse James are the only active tight ends on the roster, so Nauta could find himself back on the active roster sooner rather than later.

Promoted from practice squad
Nauta was promoted to the Lions' active roster from the practice squad Saturday.
Analysis: The 2019 seventh-round pick will serve as an extra player for Sunday's game at Jacksonville before reverting back to the practice squad. Nauta will operate as Detroit's No. 3 tight end behind T.J. Hockenson and Jesse James with Hunter Bryant (concussion) on injured reserve.

Let go by Detroit
Nauta was waived by the Lions on Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Nauta briefly spent time on the reserve/COVID-19 list before returning to training camp relatively quickly. The 2019 seventh-round selection played sparingly in his rookie campaign, mainly on special teams, but did manage to stick on the active roster all season. Expect to see the 23-year-old fullback on the team's practice squad to start the season.

Activated from COVID-19 list
The Lions removed Nauta (illness) from the COVID-19 list Monday.
Analysis: Nauta joined a list of eight Lions players who were placed on the list earlier in the offseason, but it appears the second-year tight end is healthy well ahead of the season and in time for training camp. In addition to serving as depth at that position, Nauta could be a candidate for some lead blocking should the primary fullback, which was Nick Bawden the last two seasons, miss time in 2020.

Joins COVID list
The Lions have placed Nauta (illness) on the reserve/COVID list, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Nauta is one of eight Lions on the list along with offensive stalwarts Matthew Stafford, Kenny Golladay and T.J. Hockenson (ankle). A 2019 seventh-round pick, Nauta spent much of his rookie season on the practice squad before making his pro debut Week 12 and logging snaps in each of the last six games. Even though he's listed as a tight end, he got time at fullback and hauled in two of three targets for 13 yards.

Spent time at fullback
Nauta served as Detroit's primary lead blocker over the final six games of the 2019 season, Chris Burke of the Athletic reports.
Analysis: Burke also notes that the Lions "badly want a multifaceted fullback," and their top guy at that position, Nick Bawden (knee), has ended each of the past two seasons on injured reserve due to knee injuries. That's what paved the way for Nauta to serve as the team's lead blocker down the stretch in 2019, and Bawden's recovery from his most recent setback will presumably play a large role in how much time Nauta will see at fullback in 2020. In any case, Nauta's versatility as a blocker and…read more

Makes two catches as rookie
Nauta (hamstring) finished the 2019 season with two catches on three targets for 13 yards over six games.
Analysis: Detroit took a flier on Nauta in the seventh round of last year's draft and the Georgia product ended up appearing in a handful of games for the team. With incumbent No. 3 tight end Logan Thomas headed for unrestricted free agency, there soon could be an opportunity for Nauta to move up a peg on the depth chart in advance of the 2020 campaign. After all, it seems unlikely that the Lions will again devote significant resources to bring in more competition at tight end.

Done for day
Nauta (hamstring) was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Lions.
Analysis: In a matter of minutes, Nauta was shifted from questionable to out, signaling some severity of the injury. His 2019 season will end with two catches for 13 yards in six games. For the remainder of Week 17, Jesse James and Logan Thomas are the only healthy tight ends on the roster.

Suffers injury Sunday
Nauta (hamstring) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against Green Bay.
Analysis: It's unclear how Nauta suffered the injury, but the team will likely be cautious with his return considering it's a soft tissue injury. As long as the rookie out of Georgia is sidelined, Jesse James and Logan Thomas are the only healthy tight ends on the roster.

No targets on seven snaps
Nauta was not targeted during Sunday's 27-17 loss to Denver.
Analysis: Naught caught a pass each of the past two games but wasn't even targeted in this one. As the third tight end on a team that wants to run the ball as much as it can, Nauta is no guarantee to see another opportunity in the passing game during the season finale Sunday against Green Bay.

Catches another pass
Nauta caught one of two targets for 10 yards during Sunday's 38-17 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: While Nauta set career highs in playing time (12 offensive snaps), targets and receiving yards, that's not saying much for the inexperienced tight end playing in his fourth career regular-season game. As long as Jesse James and Logan Thomas stay healthy, Nauta should remain far away from fantasy lineups.

Snags first career reception
Nauta caught one pass for three yards during Sunday's 20-7 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: Nauta caught his first career pass, but it was only good for a handful of yards. Moreover, the rookie somehow saw less snaps than he has either of the past two games despite T.J. Hockenson (ankle) landing on injured reserve this past week.

Serving as fourth-string tight end
Nauta logged seven offensive snaps and wasn't targeted during Thursday's 24-20 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Nauta made some nice plays as a lead blocker but the majority of his playing time came on special teams, which will likely remain the case as long as T.J. Hockenson, Jesse James and Logan Thomas are healthy enough to play. However, Hockenson might have picked up a leg injury in addition to his pre-exisiting shoulder injury during Thursday's loss. If the first-round rookie is forced to miss time with the Lions now out of playoff contention, it's possible Nauta, a seventh-round pick, could get…read more

Makes regular-season debut
Nauta logged 10 offensive snaps but was not targeted during Sunday's 19-16 loss to Washington.
Analysis: Nauta was signed to the active roster in the aftermath of T.J. Hockenson's sudden appearance on the injury report with a shoulder injury. While he wasn't asked to do much offensively, Nauta could stick around on the active roster as long as Hockenson is operating at less than 100 percent.

Joins Detroit
Nauta was signed to the Lions' 53-man roster Saturday.
Analysis: The versatile tight end is expected to be a contributor on special teams, but with the likes of T.J. Hockenson, Jesse James and Logan Thomas all above him on the depth chart, it's unlikely Nauta sees many offensive snaps.
