Scores TD in finale
Pettis caught two passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' regular-season finale.
Analysis: Actually, one of the catches was a trap that Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy failed to challenge, but who's counting? In any event, the 2018 second-round pick is still only 25 and should get another chance to carve out a role somewhere.

Reels in two passes in debut
Pettis caught two of three targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Pettis finally made his Giants debut and finished third among the team's wide receivers by playing 29 of 64 offensive snaps. The 2018 second-round pick for the 49ers will look to build on this performance against a soft Dallas defense in Week 17.

Sidelined again Sunday
Pettis will be a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pettis will sit out for the second game in a row and he has yet to make his Giants debut since being claimed off waivers via San Francisco. Austin Mack and C.J. Board are expected to continue to serve as the reserve receiving options for Week 14 sans Pettis.

Healthy scratch in Week 13
Pettis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 13 tilt against the Seahawks.
Analysis: The young journeyman was removed from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, but his Giants debut will have to wait at least another week. Austin Mack and C.J. Board will continue to serve as the reserve wideout options behind the top trio of Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and Golden Tate against Seattle.

Activated from COVID list
The Giants activated Pettis from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Pettis' team debut has been put on hold because of his stint on the reserve list. It appears he'll finally suit up for the Giants in Sunday's game against the Seahawks, a meeting between division leaders. It's unclear how much of an impact Pettis will have on offense with the starting wide receiver jobs locked down by Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and Golden Tate. Pettis could contribute as a returner immediately.

Should return soon
Pettis (illness) is expected to "ramp up" his activity and return from the reserve/COVID-19 list this week, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Pettis is eligible to be activated from the reserve list, so his Giants debut could come this Sunday against the Seahawks. It appears he's cleared the necessary protocols, and the Giants simply want to see if his conditioning is up to par. Fantasy managers should stay away, as the 2018 second-round pick has enjoyed limited offensive success and could be catching passes from Colt McCoy once he eventually takes the field.

Team debut pushed back
Pettis (illness) won't be available for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pettis landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive for the coronavirus Nov. 20. Even after the Giants were on bye Week 11, the wideout apparently won't have enough time to clear all health-related protocols prior to the Week 12 contest. A 2018 second-round pick of the 49ers, Pettis still has yet to suit up for the Giants since being claimed off waivers in early November.

Tests positive for COVID-19
The Giants will place Pettis on the reserve/COVID-19 list after he tested positive for the virus Friday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Though Pettis positive test comes during the Giants' bye week, he'll still likely have a tough time clearing all COVID-19-related protocols ahead of the team's next game Nov. 29 versus the Bengals. The ex-49ers wideout is still looking to make his Giants debut.

Won't play against Philly
Pettis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Eagles, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Pettis has been with the team for nearly two weeks, but his Giants debut will be put on hold once again. According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger, the 2018 second-round pick is expected to suit up for the Giants following the Week 11 bye. Austin Mack and C.J. Board should get more work as depth wideouts for the time being.

Joins active roster
Pettis was activated from the commissioner's exempt list Tuesday.
Analysis: The Giants claimed the 25-year-old off waivers from the 49ers last week, but the team utilized a roster exemption with him unavailable for Week 9 due to the COVID-19 protocols when joining a new team. Pettis played 45 offensive snaps in the season opener but saw minimal playing time in the subsequent games and is without a catch this season. The 2018 second-round pick likely will open as a depth wideout for New York, but he could immediately contribute in the return game.

Won't play Week 9
Pettis (shoulder), whom the Giants claimed off waivers Wednesday, won't be eligible to play in Sunday's game at Washington while he waits to clear the NFL's COVID-19 protocol, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: All players moving from one organization to another must self-isolate for five days before reporting to work with their new clubs, so Pettis won't have enough time to get settled in with the Giants before Sunday's game. Pettis should be ready to join the Giants when the team begins Week 10 prep, and he'll likely have a clearer path to playing time in New York than he did in San Francisco. Scooped off waivers
The Giants claimed Pettis (shoulder) off waivers from the 49ers on Wednesday, Michael Eisen of New York's official site reports.
Analysis: The 2018 second-round pick was cut loose by the 49ers on Tuesday after the team was unable to find a trade partner prior to the deadline. Though Pettis' first two seasons with San Francisco were promising -- he recorded 38 receptions, 576 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during that time -- his standing in the organization had soured over the past two years. Waived by San Fran
Pettis (shoulder) was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The team attempted to work out a trade prior to Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline but was unable to reach a deal. Pettis, a 2018 second-round pick, had 27 receptions for 467 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie, but he had only 11 catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns over the past two seasons. The 25-year-old has played only 66 offensive snaps in 2020 and is currently dealing with a shoulder injury. Pettis seems likely to garner some interest on the waiver wire.

Estimated as non-participant
Pettis (shoulder) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old picked up the shoulder injury during the second half of Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, so it's not a major surprising to see him labeled as a DNP. Pettis' ability to practice the next two days will provide a better idea of his availability for Thursday's contest versus Green Bay.

Injures shoulder Sunday
Pettis (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
Analysis: Pettis suffered his shoulder injury in the second half, when he was brought down hard and fumbled while returning a kickoff. If Pettis can't return, River Cracraft will be the 49ers' only healthy wideout behind Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne and Trent Taylor.

Healthy scratch again
Pettis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: The 2018 second-round pick will be on the sideline for the third straight contest. Coach Kyle Shanahan said earlier in the week the team made and fielded calls about potentially trading Pettis, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, so it's not a major surprise to see him a healthy scratch. Richie James will serve as the depth wideout Sunday behind the usual contributors.

Not playing Sunday
Pettis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Analysis: The 24-year-old was dealing with a knee injury earlier in the week, but he avoided an injury designation and is now a healthy scratch for Week 5. Pettis has been targeted once through four games and didn't play an offensive snap during last week's loss to the Eagles.

Back at practice
Pettis (knee) was a full participant during Thursday's practice, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
Analysis: Pettis suffered the knee injury in Week 4, but as evidenced by this news, the issue isn't serious enough to force him to miss game action. Now that Pettis appears fully healthy, look for him to assume his usual depth role, one that has rendered him a fantasy non-factor thus far this season.

Pettis (knee) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pettis suffered the knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, but the good news was he didn't aggravate the issue. The depth of the receiving room could be tested heading into Week 5's game against the Dolphins, as Trent Taylor (ankle) was also limited in Wednesday's practice. Should practice Wednesday
Pettis is expected to be at practice Wednesday after suffering a knee injury during Sunday's loss to the Eagles, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old returned to the field after leaving the game with the injury, and it appears he didn't further aggravate the issue. Pettis returned one punt for six yards and didn't play an offensive snap during the contest.

Remains a non-factor
Pettis played just eight snaps and did not receive a target in Sunday's 36-9 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Pettis was unable to get on the field on offense despite the 49ers running a bit thin at wide receiver. The third-year wideout showed significant attitude and work ethic improvements during training camp, but it hasn't translated to snaps in the regular season. With just one target through three games, Pettis should be left on the waiver wire until his situation improves.

No catches in loss
Pettis was unable to haul in his lone target in Sunday's 24-20 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: So much for getting out of head coach Kyle Shanahan's doghouse during training camp. The sophomore was unable to make anything happen offensively, even with Deebo Samuel (foot) and Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) sitting this one out. Jimmy Garoppolo looked to his tight ends and running backs early and often, which might be a trend going forward this year. Even if Pettis earns another "start" next week against the Jets, it's hard to get excited after a dud like Sunday's.

Makes club, could have early impact
The 49ers kept Pettis on their 53-man roster heading into the 2020 regular season, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: After a woeful sophomore campaign, Pettis has begun his comeback tour with a strong camp and a spot on the active roster. The 2018 second-round pick has drawn praise from San Francisco's coaching staff for his renewed attitude and work ethic. Strong bet for 53-man roster
Pettis' spot on the 49ers' regular-season roster appears to be safe heading into Saturday's upcoming cuts, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Pettis' situation in San Francisco was looking bleak after a poor sophomore campaign led to the wideout being left off the active roster for the Super Bowl. Injuries have decimated the 49ers' receiver depth chart during training camp, but the 24-year-old has also improved his standing in the organization heading into the 2020 campaign. Analysis: Pettis entered the 2019 season with high expectations after a late breakout at the end of his rookie campaign, but he received criticism from his head coach after getting off to a slow start during training camp. The then 23-year-old responded negatively to the motivation attempts, finishing with just 109 yards and two scores over 11 games, and he even was left as a healthy scratch during the Super Bowl. Getting chance to shine
Pettis has an opportunity to step up in a 49ers receiving corps dealing with a number of injuries and one player opting out, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: No. 1 wide receiver Deebo Samuel (foot) is recovering from a Jones fracture that leaves his availability for Week 1 in question, while Richie James (wrist) is on the active/non-football injury list, Jalen Hurd may have suffered a torn ACL, and Travis Benjamin decided not to play this season. Coach Kyle Shanahan said he wants to see Pettis look like he's on a mission this offseason, but the selection of fellow wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in the first round suggests the Niners aren't counting on much. Coach Kyle Shanahan said he wants to see Pettis "on a mission" this offseason, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Unable to build on a strong finish to his rookie campaign, Pettis was limited to 11 receptions and 313 offensive snaps in 2019, eventually serving as a healthy scratch on gamedays. Shanahan said the lack of playing time was based on an accumulation of factors, including a lack of intensity while running routes. Pettis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Super Bowl against Kansas City, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Pettis has had a dramatic fall from grace with the 49ers throughout his sophomore season, making his inactive status for Super Bowl LIV a fitting end to the 2019 campaign. Though the second-year wideout was active for the NFC Championship Game against the Packers, he didn't play any snaps during the contest.

Pettis (illness) was a full practice participant Friday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pettis brushed off the illness that sidelined him Thursday, or at the very least was able to gut it out and fit in every practice rep to wrap up the first week of Super Bowl prep. Considering he hasn't seen a target since Week 10, though, he's unlikely to make a splash versus the Chiefs on Feb. 2.

Returns from illness
Pettis (illness) returned to practice Friday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Pettis only missed one day and should be healthy with plenty of time to spare before the Super Bowl. He was technically active for the NFC Championship Game, but he didn't actually play any snaps in a 37-20 win over the Packers. Any involvement in the Super Bowl would come as a modest surprise.

Under the weather
Pettis did not practice Thursday due to an illness, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pettis will have a week and a half to return to full health ahead of the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, so there's not yet any reason to consider his availability in jeopardy. More pressingly, the second-year wideout has not recorded a snap on offense since Week 12 of the regular season. Having tumbled down to a depth role in San Francisco's receiver corps, Pettis will be an unlikely candidate to factor into the team's plans on offense even if he's at full strength.

Falls completely out of favor
Pettis finished with 11 receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games during the regular season.
Analysis: Pettis was the biggest disappointment for a 49ers squad that surged to the top of the NFC in 2019. The 23-year-old appeared to be turning into a fantasy factor over the final four weeks of the 2018 season, but he failed to build off of the momentum and seize a potential starting opportunity. Analysis: Pettis has been sidelined by a knee injury for two consecutive games, but he appears on pace to be available for the 49ers' Week 15 tilt against the Falcons. Pettis has played no more than 33 offensive snaps in a single contest since Week 7, however, so don't expect a sudden burst in production upon his return.

Sitting out Week 14
Pettis (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Saints, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The 49ers will be down two receivers in Pettis and Marquise Goodwin (knee/foot) in Week 14, but both players have been afterthoughts in coach Kyle Shanahan's offensive game plan of late. Even if Pettis shakes off the sprained knee in time for the Week 15 game against the Falcons, he likely won't be in line for more than a handful of snaps.

Questionable for Week 14
Pettis (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pettis sat out Week 13's loss to the Ravens due to a lingering knee issue, and his status for Sunday's tilt against the Saints could come down to a game-time decision. Officially DNP
Pettis (knee) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Analysis: The injury forced Pettis' early departure in Wednesday's practice and kept him sidelined Thursday, but after he recently underwent an evaluation, the 49ers determined the wideout wasn't dealing with a long-term concern. Pettis (back) is listed as active Sunday against the Cardinals, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Available for all 10 of the 49ers games this season, Pettis hasn't made much of an impact when on the field in the previous nine, posting an 11-109-2 line on 24 targets. Top wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) is banged up at the moment, but Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne (and not Pettis) profited when the veteran was knocked out of the team's Week 10 loss to the Seahawks. Pettis (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pettis arguably has a bit more intrigue with Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) also listed as questionable, but recent comments from coach Kyle Shanahan don't bode well for the second-year pro. The 49ers used Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne ahead of Pettis after Sanders suffered the rib injury during Monday's 27-24 loss to Seattle. It'll be interesting to see the 49ers' inactive list approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, as they have five players listed as out or doubtful and a…read more

Still has cap on practice reps
Pettis (back) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Kicking off the week with back-to-back capped session leaves Pettis in some limbo for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. His listing on Friday's injury report will provide a sense of his chances to suit up Week 11.

Limited by back injury
Pettis was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to a back injury.
Analysis: Pettis is coming off an uneventful performance in Monday's loss to the Seahawks, during which he went without a catch on three targets. He apparently picked up an injury along the way, adding another complication as he prepares for a Week 11 matchup with the Cardinals. The 24-year-old has been minimally involved in the offense over the last three games, so even if he's available this week, he shouldn't garner much fantasy interest.

No catches Monday
Pettis was targeted three times but did not record a catch in Monday's 27-24 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne were given opportunities to shine after Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) left the contest early. Pettis was out there for a few routes (38 percent of snaps), but he was unable to establish any sort of rapport with Jimmy Garoppolo, as has been the case all season. It has been a harsh fall from grace for the 2018 second-round pick, and even if Sanders is unable to go next week, Pettis would not be worth considering in fantasy.

Sticks in backup role
Pettis caught his lone target for 21 yards in Thursday's 28-25 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Pettis was removed from his starting role last week against the Panthers, and he retained the decreased role (30 percent of offensive snaps Thursday) behind rookie Deebo Samuel against Arizona. The second-year receiver has really seen his stock plummet after posting WR1 numbers over the final quarter of the 2018 season. With the trade deadline passed, Pettis will continue to serve a backup role (eliminating nearly all of his fantasy value) heading into another divisional matchup against the…read more
