Moves to bench
Drew Lock will start Sunday against the Chargers with Allen moving to a backup role, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Allen's putrid outing in the Week 12 loss at Buffalo led the Broncos to turn to Lock, who came off injured reserve after missing 12 games with a thumb injury. Allen may serve as the backup the rest of the season.

Not assured Week 13 start
General manager John Elway said Allen and Drew Lock (thumb) both will get practice reps this week before the Broncos make a decision on their starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Allen's putrid outing in the Week 12 loss at Buffalo could inspire the Broncos to turn to Lock, who has been designated to return from injured reserve. The rookie wouldn't necessarily be an upgrade, but the Broncos probably want to see him get a few starts at some point before the conclusion of their dismal season. The decision for the Week 13 starter likely will be made Thursday or Friday.

Continues descent
Allen completed 18 of 25 passes for 82 yards and an interception during Sunday's 20-3 loss in Buffalo. He added eight yards on two carries.
Analysis: Those stats are not a typo, as Allen completed just three of his 14 attempts in the second half for a total of seven yards. Facing a stingy Buffalo defense and unable to cut through the wind with his middling arm, Allen did not complete a pass on Denver's final five drives of the game. Still, the game was within reach for much of the game, and a Broncos interception set Allen up in Buffalo territory late in the second quarter. He promptly had a miscommunication with Courtland Sutton and sailed…read more

Takes step back in Sunday's loss
Allen completed 17 of 39 passes for 240 yards with a touchdown and an interception during Sunday's 27-23 loss in Minnesota.
Analysis: The Broncos relied heavily on trickery early Sunday and it paid dividends, with Denver jumping out to an early 17-0 lead courtesy of a couple of big throws by Allen, including a 48-yarder to Courtland Sutton. When archaeologists dust off this game to see what went wrong, however, they'll find back-to-back drives to end the first half in which Allen airmailed a pass to Sutton to settle for a field goal and then was picked on his second try. The big early lead still gave Allen a shot to pull it…read more

Keeping starting job
Coach Vic Fangio confirmed Monday that Allen would remain the Broncos' starting quarterback for the team's Week 11 game against the Vikings, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: While making his NFL debut in place of the injured Joe Flacco (neck) in Week 9, Allen proved to be a capable game manager, completing 12 of 20 attempts for 193 yards and two touchdowns en route to guiding the Broncos to a 24-19 win over the Browns. The serviceable outing was enough for Allen to keep the starting job out of the bye week, but he'll need to continue to perform well in his subsequent appearances to hold off rookie second-round pick Drew Lock (thumb). Lock, who has been on injured…read more

Victorious in first NFL start
Allen completed 12 of 20 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 24-19 win over the Browns.
Analysis: Making his first NFL start, Allen showed a decent amount of poise and mostly let his skill players do all the hard work, as his two TDs came on impressive individual efforts by Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant. Allen didn't turn the ball over or make any glaring mistakes, however, which was all the Broncos needed to secure the win. He'll get a bye week to prepare before facing a much tougher test on the road against the Vikings in Week 11, although it's not yet clear when Drew Lock (thumb) might…read more

May be in line for multiple starts
Allen, who was named the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Browns, could be in store for an extended run atop the depth chart with Joe Flacco expected to miss six weeks due to a bulging disc in his neck, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: While the two medical opinions Flacco has received leave him optimistic that he'll avoid surgery, the Broncos are likely leaning toward placing him on season-ending injured reserve, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Flacco's absence presents Allen, a 2016 sixth-round pick, to see his first NFL action, though the 27-year-old won't necessarily be guaranteed any starts beyond this weekend. Drew Lock (thumb) is targeting a return from IR following the Broncos' bye in Week 10, and Denver is…read more

Taking over under center
Allen will start Sunday's game against the Browns and perhaps beyond that point, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Broncos are making a change at QB with Joe Flacco suffering a neck injury. A precise timetable for his recovery isn't known, but it's believed to be a multi-week issue. In Flacco's place, Allen will make his first appearance as a professional after bouncing around three organizations throughout his career.

Finds new squad
Allen was claimed off waivers by the Broncos on Sunday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: With rookie Drew Lock heading to injured reserve with a thumb injury, the Broncos elected to bring in Allen as their backup for the time being. Allen had some solid performances during the preseason, and could be serviceable should starter Joe Flacco go down due to an unforeseen reason.

Let go by Rams
Allen was waived by the Rams on Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Allen had been making a strong case for the third-string quarterback job throughout the preseason, but came up short in his efforts. The Arkansas product could be an intriguing option as a backup, especially for teams running a similar style to the Rams.

Makes case for possible No. 3 job
Allen completed 12 of 19 passes for 162 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Rams' 10-6 preseason win over the Broncos on Saturday. He also rushed once for seven yards.
Analysis: Allen drew the start and saw the bulk of playing time, and although he was efficient overall, he only was able to put together one scoring drive. John Wolford followed Allen, and while he only completed 50.0 percent of his 12 attempts, he did manage to notch the only touchdown of the game with a four-yard scoring throw to Jalen Greene. Allen has the advantage of having been on the practice squad all of last season, and he may therefore have the upper hand if the Rams opt to keep three…read more

Rejoins team ahead of offseason
Allen re-signed with the Rams on Thursday.
Analysis: Allen was on the Rams' practice squad for the duration of the 2018 season. A 2016 sixth-round pick, there's a possibility Allen could compete for the backup role behind Jared Goff depending how Sean Mannion's free agency prospects pan out. Allen earned a meaningless start in Week 17 with the Rams having already earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC and completed 20 of 34 passes for 169 yards -- hardly eye-popping numbers that will generate a plethora of potential suitors.
