Set to serve as backup QB
Lynch was added to the Steelers' 53-man roster from the practice squad Friday.
Analysis: The 2016 first-rounder spent the preseason with the Seahawks but was let go at September's roster deadline and joined the Steelers' practice squad Sept. 17. Lynch provides some additional depth at quarterback with Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) on injured reserve and Mason Rudolph dealing with a concussion. Lynch will serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Devlin Hodges this week against the Chargers with Rudolph sidelined.

Lands on Steelers' practice squad
Lynch signed with Pittsburgh's practice squad Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Lynch was available after the Seahawks let him go Aug. 30. The former first-round pick will be able to provide the Steelers' quarterback room with some depth after it was announced Monday that Ben Roethlisberger would miss the remainder of the season with an elbow injury.

Let go by Seattle
The Seahawks waived Lynch on Friday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Timesreports.
Analysis: Condotta also notes that Seattle could try to keep Lynch on their practice squad for the 2019 season. Regardless, the 25-year-old will have to continue to wait for his shot at a bigger role under center. Lynch didn't see any regular-season action in 2018. The former first-round pick appeared in five games for Denver between 2016 and 2017, completing a total of 79 passes for 792 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions.

Sitting out against Chargers
Coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Lynch (head) won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Lynch is still feeling the effects of an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit dished out by Vikings cornerback Holton Hill on Sunday. With the former first-round pick battling Geno Smith for the backup job, the injury is certainly serious enough to hold him out. Smith will shoulder backup work behind Russell Wilson for Saturday's game with Lynch sidelined.

Exits after taking cheap shot
Lynch (head) had to exit Sunday's preseason matchup with the Vikings in the fourth quarter after taking an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit from Vikings cornerback Holton Hill, Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports.
Analysis: Hill was ejected on the play, while Lynch was eventually able to walk to the sideline under his own power. Lynch had struggled prior to leaving the game, completing only six of 15 passes for 67 yards without a touchdown or turnover. His bid to beat out Geno Smith for the backup job behind Russell Wilson looks unlikely to succeed at this point.

Shines in Seahawks debut
Lynch completed 11 of 15 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason game versus the Broncos. He also ran four times for 38 yards and a score.
Analysis: Lynch is positioned at No. 3 on Seattle's depth chart behind Russell Wilson and Geno Smith, but this game should be enough to lift him over Smith. He'll get the chance to take reps with the second team for the next week while Smith recovers from a minor surgery on his knee. While the Seahawks are still probably going to sign another quarterback to compete for the job, if Lynch can repeat the performance he put up against the Broncos he appears poised to take the job.

Inks deal with Seattle
The Seahawks signed Lynch on Thursday, Sports Radio KJR reports.
Analysis: The Broncos traded up to pluck Lynch in the first round of the 2016 draft, but he was stuck behind Trevor Siemian for most of his rookie season and both Siemian and Brock Osweiler in 2017. Lynch made five appearances (four starts) during those two years, completing 61.7 percent of his passes for 792 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. After Case Keenum arrived in Denver last offseason, Lynch was unable to keep a job by Week 1 and remained out of football in 2018. Upon joining the…read more

Works out for Packers
Lynch worked out for the Packers on Tuesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: It's not clear if the Packers took a look at Lynch for any other reason than they wanted to evaluate him as a prospect, but it does at least lead to more speculation that the Packers are considering shutting down starter Aaron Rodgers for the rest of the season. Lynch remains a free agent for now, but if the Packers do decide to call it a season for Rodgers, Lynch is presumably the favorite to take his place on the roster.
