Pens deal with Cowboys
Kearse signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys on Wednesday, NFL reporter Josina Anderson reports.
Analysis: Kearse suited up in 11 games for the Lions last season, playing 503 snaps on defense -- easily a career high. In that time, he totaled 59 tackles, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. The Cowboys' secondary struggled last season, so Kearse should be able to carve out a role, at least in nickel packages.

Joins Ravens' practice squad
The Ravens signed Kearse (hip) to the practice squad Thursday, Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Analysis: Kearse was a starter with the Lions through 11 appearances this season, making him a tentative candidate to bump to Baltimore's active roster in the event of postseason action. The hip injury he dealt with toward the end of his tenure in Detroit isn't expected to be serious.

Waived by Lions
The Lions waived Kearse (hip) on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Kearse sat out this past Saturday's loss to the Buccaneers due to a hip injury, but he started the previous seven games, recording 48 tackles and two pass breakups. His hip injury isn't expected to be a major impediment moving forward, so the fifth-year safety could bolster a contender's secondary depth.

Six tackles Sunday
Kearse recorded six tackles (five solo) across 49 defensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Kearse now has 34 tackles (24 solo) on the season, which is already higher than any of his season-totals in his first four seasons in Minnesota. He continues to see higher snap counts than Tracy Walker over the past few weeks, a trend that may continue for Thursday's Thanksgiving game against the Texans.

Racks up eight tackles
Kearse collected eight tackles (two solo) during Sunday's 34-20 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: The 26-year-old kicked off the season by serving a three-game suspension for violation of the league's substance abuse policy, but he's suited up for each of Detroit's games since Week 4 while playing an important defensive role. Kearse fielded a season-high 56 defensive snaps Sunday against the Vikings as he earned his first start of the year, establishing a new 2020 best with his eight total tackles. Coverage skills remain strong for Kearse as they were in 2019. For a second straight year, he…read more

Suspension served
The NFL lifted Kearse's suspension Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Kearse was handed a three-game suspension in July for violating the league's substance abuse policy, but he's eligible to return to action in Week 4 against the Jaguars. The Clemson product played 15 games for the Vikings last year and recorded 28 tackles, six pass breakups and an interception while averaging 18.3 snaps per game. Kearse will likely start out in a reserve role with an opportunity to climb the depth chart.

Receives three-game suspension
The NFL suspended Kearse for three games due to a violation of the substance abuse policy, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: As a member of the Vikings last season, Kearse was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of a firearm without a permit. The incident didn't impact his ability to play, and Rothstein notes that the league "has not said whether this suspension is related." The Lions signed Kearse back in March, but with this suspension he won't debut with his new team until Oct. 4 against the Saints.

Heads to Detroit
Kearse (toe) is signing with the Lions on a one-year, $2.75 million contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The 2016 seventh-round pick primarily served as a backup safety and slot corner during his four seasons in Minnesota, playing more snaps on special teams than on defense in every season until 2019. The Lions likely envision Kearse in a similar role, as Tracy Walker and Duron Harmon are expected to start at safety. Kearse should have plenty of time to recover from the knee and toe injuries that held him out of Minnesota's playoff loss to the 49ers.

Reserve role in 2019
Kearse (toe) finished the regular season with 28 tackles, six pass breakups and an interception over 15 appearances.
Analysis: Kearse sat out of the Vikings' divisional-round loss to the 49ers due to a toe injury, but he was healthy for the team's wild-card win in New Orleans despite not logging a defensive snap. His toe injury should be healed by time he hits free agency in March. Fellow Vikings safeties Anthony Harris and Andrew Sendejo are also pending unrestricted free agents, so Kearse may wait until those dominoes fall before making a decision whether to return to Minnesota or try his luck elsewhere.

Won't play Saturday
Kearse (toe) has been downgraded to out for Saturday NFC divisional-round game at San Francisco.
Analysis: Kearse originally received the doubtful tag, so it's not a major surprise to see him downgraded to out. Andrew Sendejo will continue to work as the Vikings' No. 3 safety.

Draws doubtful tag
Kearse (knee/toe) is officially listed as doubtful for Saturday's NFC divisional-round contest against the 49ers, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Kearse is trending in the wrong direction for Saturday's playoff tilt in San Francisco. He didn't handle a single snap on defense during Minnesota's wild-card win over New Orleans, so his availability (or lack thereof) will only impact the Vikings' depth at safety.

No practice Wednesday
Kearse (knee/toe) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Kearse watched a second straight practice from the sidelines, and he'll need to work in some capacity Thursday to have a shot at suiting up in Saturday's divisional-round game versus the 49ers. Whether Kearse can play Saturday mainly affects the team's safety depth, as he didn't play a defensive snap in the wild-card win versus the Saints.

Still nursing injury
Kearse (knee/toe) was listed as a non-participant for Tuesday's walkthrough practice.
Analysis: Kearse has been nursing the toe injury since Week 15 of the regular season, but luckily for him, Tuesday's practice report was only an estimation. The 25-year-old played through the injury the past three weeks, so expect his practice availability throughout the week shed light on his chances to play Saturday. If Kearse sits out, however, the team would be down to just three healthy safeties.

Ready for Week 17
Kearse (toe) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Bears.
Analysis: Kearse was considered questionable despite working as a full practice participant all week, so it's not a real surprise he's okay to suit up Sunday. The 25-year-old could see increased defensive reps versus Chicago since Minnesota is locked into its playoff position and is expected to rest some key players.

Practices in full Thursday
Kearse (toe) practiced fully Thursday, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Full participation in the first practice of the week certainly bodes well for Kearse's chances of playing Week 16. He'll most likely be back Monday night providing depth in the Vikings' secondary and on special teams against the Packers.

Sidelined Week 15
Kearse has a toe injury and has been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Chargers.
Analysis: Kearse was added to the injury report Thursday as a practice non-participant and will miss his first game of the season. Andrew Sendejo will operate as Minnesota's reserve safety against the Chargers.
