Could be cap casualty soon
Williams (shoulder) would need to agree to a reduced salary to have any shot of staying with the Raiders, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Signed to a four-year, $44 million contract during the 2019 offseason, Williams battled through plantar fasciitis in his first year with the Raiders before missing the entire second season with a shoulder injury. He should recover from September labrum surgery in time for the offseason program, but he's facing an uncertain future with no guaranteed money remaining on his contract. Williams turns 29 in February, and he won't be handed a starting job in 2021, regardless of where he ends up…read more

To undergo shoulder surgery
Williams, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, will undergo surgery on the torn labrum in his right shoulder at some point in September, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Williams initially expected to play through the injury, but instead surgery has been ordered up, which will cause him to miss the entirety of his sixth NFL season. In his stead, the Raiders are expected to go with an inexperienced receiving corps composed of two rookies (Henry Ruggs, Bryan Edwards) and a second-year slot specialist (Hunter Renfrow).

Season over
The Raiders placed Williams (shoulder) on injured reserve Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: A little more than a week removed from suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Williams won't suit up this season after initially planning to play through the injury. With the decision made to shut down the 28-year-old, the Raiders likely will trot out a young receiving corps, led by rookie first-rounder Henry Ruggs and supplemented by slot man Hunter Renfrow and 2020 third-round pick Bryan Edwards.

Hopes to tough out injury
Williams (shoulder) is expected to play through his torn labrum, Vic Tafur, Jimmy Durkin, Ted Nguyen and Tashan Reed of The Athletic's State of the Nation podcast report.
Analysis: Williams has played through the exact same injury on two previous occasions, as noted by Tafur during Thursday's episode of State of the Nation: once during his senior season at Western Oregon and then in 2015 with the Chargers. That the 28-year-old has some experience dealing with this exact injury is hopeful, and the Raiders have left the door open for Williams to possibly suit up for the season opener Sept. 13 versus the Panthers. Williams has not been wearing a sling or cast while at…read more

Suffers torn labrum
Williams recently sustained a torn labrum in his shoulder, but the wideout intends to put off surgery and play through the injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Williams plans to take the next few weeks off to treat the injury through rest and rehab, leaving the door open for him to be available for the Raiders' season opener Sept. 13 at Carolina. After he missed only two games in 2019 while battling plantar fasciitis in both of his feet for a large portion of the season, Williams has shown an ability to play through injuries, though this latest shoulder issue could provide more unique complications. The Raiders are counting on Williams to serve as…read more

Overcomes foot issues
Williams said he's "over the hump" in dealing with the plantar fasciitis that bothered him last season, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Williams was hampered by both of his feet, missing two games in October and ultimately failing to maintain his strong start to the season. He finished with a 42-651-6 receiving line on 64 targets, with both his stat line and snap count (727) looking oddly similar to what he had done the previous two years with the Chargers. The 28-year-old is entering the second season of a four-year, $44 million contract, and while better health might theoretically lead to more targets, he's now facing tougher…read more

Recovered from foot soreness
Williams dealt with plantar fasciitis in both feet last season, but he's believed to be healthy now, ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez reports.
Analysis: Williams technically missed only two games in the first season of a four-year, $44 million contract, but he didn't make much noise after Week 8. He scored five of his six touchdowns in his first five games, while his final nine appearances yielded only 344 yards and one score. In terms of per-target efficiency, he built on his excellent track record from his time with the Chargers, with his 10.2 YPT placing seventh among qualified pass catchers. Williams made a strong case to see more work if…read more

Nearing full health
Coach Jon Gruden said Williams (foot) is approaching 100 percent health, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Williams was hobbled by plantar fasciitis throughout much of his first season with the Raiders, recording 47 percent of his receiving yards and five of his six touchdowns within his first five games. He's now entering the second season of a four-year, $44.4 million contract, with his $11 million base salary for 2020 vesting to a full guarantee earlier this month, per overthecap.com. The Raiders are probably still in the market for a true No. 1 receiver, but they at least have a diverse group of…read more

Progressing well in recovery
Williams (foot) is making good progress in his recovery from his plantar fasciitis injury, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Analysis: Williams began the 2019 regular season strong, recording a touchdown grab in each of the first four games. However, he was then forced to sit out back-to-back games due to plantar fasciitis issues. The 28-year-old wideout toughed out the remainder of the season, but he was clearly hobbled by his lingering foot injury, culminating in a Week 17 tilt in which he wasn't targeted. Coach Jon Gruden blamed Williams' dwindling production on injury, saying "it's hard to play when your feet are on fire"…read more

Still battling foot injury
Williams (foot) didn't receive a target in Sunday's 16-15 loss to the Broncos, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Coach Jon Gruden attributed Williams' lack of production to his injury status. "We still think he's an excellent player, Gruden said, according to Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area. "But it's hard to play when your feet are on fire. His feet were hurting." Williams has been dealing with plantar fasciitis, and it has affected his performance lately. The 27-year-old wideout had his best game in Week 1 against the Broncos, as he set season highs in catches (six) and yards (105) while finding the…read more

Good to go Sunday
Williams (foot) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Broncos after logging a limited practice Friday, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Williams was added to the Raiders' Week 17 injury report after sitting out Thursday's practice, but his return to the field Friday sets the stage for him to suit up for the regular-season finale, a game that 7-8 Oakland needs to win in order to have any chance of making the playoffs. Though he hauled in all four of his targets for 82 yards in a Week 16 win over the Chargers, Williams has been a hit-or-miss fantasy option during the second half of the season after opening the campaign with…read more

Misses Thursday's practice
Williams (foot) didn't practice Thursday.
Analysis: Williams wasn't listed on Wednesday's practice/injury report estimate, so the wideout's Thursday addition makes his status for Sunday's game against the Broncos worth monitoring. Williams, who brought in all four of his targets for 82 yards in the Raiders' Week 16 win over the Chargers, heads into his team's regular-season finale with a 42/651/6 stat line through 13 contests.

Several big plays
Williams hauled in all four of his targets for 82 yards in the team's Week 16 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Williams demonstrated his usual big-play ability, recording catches of 43, 20 and 13 yards to account for the majority of his production. His longest reception came in the first quarter on a slant pass across the middle that he subsequently turned upfield for a big gain. Williams was outplayed by rookie Hunter Renfrow but managed to work efficiently and produce an effective stat line for the second consecutive contest. He'll look to keep that stretch going in the team's Week 17 matchup against…read more

Finds end zone in loss
Williams caught two of three targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: A battle with plantar fasciitis seems to be the cause of his recent swoon, but Williams still supplied the Raiders' only TD of the day on a 40-yard strike from Derek Carr in the first quarter -- the receiver's first trip to the end zone since Week 8. Williams has seen six targets or less in eight straight games, making him a risky fantasy option, but he'll try to finish the season on a high note beginning next Sunday in Atlanta.

Battling plantar fasciitis
Williams doesn't appear on the Raiders' Week 15 injury report, but offensive coordinator Greg Olson acknowledged Thursday that the receiver is still "battling" the plantar fasciitis that kept him sidelined for two games earlier this season, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports. "Plantar fasciitis, it's a pretty significant injury," Olson said. "He's taking medication before every game trying to manage the pain."
Analysis: Williams opened his tenure in Oakland with a bang, scoring a touchdown in each of his first four games before the foot injury sidelined him for three weeks. He returned to action in Week 8 and kept his touchdown streak going, but he's been held out of the end zone in the six games that followed and has only topped 50 receiving yards on one occasion. Though Williams' case of plantar fasciitis doesn't look like it'll threaten his availability for the remainder of the season, the injury may at…read more

Makes three catches vs. Titans
Williams caught three of four targets for 35 yards during Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Williams led Raiders wideouts in targets and hauled in 75 percent of his looks. Unfortunately, the volume was low and his long gain went for just 18 yards, so the overall output wasn't particularly impressive. Williams has been held under 50 receiving yards in five of the last six games and will look to break out next Sunday against Jacksonville.

Nearly invisible in big loss
Williams caught one of four targets for nine yards in Sunday's 40-9 loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: His lone catch didn't come until the fourth quarter, when the game was long out of reach. Williams hasn't found the end zone since Week 8 and hasn't topped 25 receiving yards in three of the last four games, disappearing just when the Raiders seemed to be pushing themselves into playoff contention. The fifth-year receiver will try to reverse his fortunes in Week 14 against the Titans.

Grounded by Jets
Williams caught two of six passes for 18 yards in Sunday's 34-3 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Drops doomed the Raiders before this one got away from them, and Williams was among the culprits. Expectations were high for him coming into this meeting with an underwhelming Jets secondary, but Williams failed to live up to them with season lows in both catches and receiving yards. Oakland's No. 1 receiver will have to be better for the team to stand any chance against Kansas City in Week 13.

Averages 20.5 yards per catch
Williams caught all four of his targets for 82 yards during Sunday's 17-10 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Williams led the team in receiving yards while averaging an impressive 20.5 yards per reception. He finished third on the team in targets, but his efficiency buoyed him to his third-best receiving output of the campaign. Williams hasn't reached the end zone in the last three games after scoring in his first five appearances of the season, but his involvement should afford him some upside heading into next Sunday's matchup against the Jets.

Nondescript line in win
Williams secured three of five targets for 25 yards in the Raiders' 26-24 win over the Chargers on Thursday.
Analysis: Williams' long reception went for a modest 12 yards, even as he tied with several players for the team lead in targets. The 27-year-old speedster opened the season with touchdown receptions in each of the first five games he suited up for, but he's now been kept out of the end zone in consecutive contests. Williams does have at least three grabs in each game this season, but he'll look to bounce back from Thursday's season-low yardage tally against the Bengals in a Week 11 matchup a week from…read more

Scoring streak comes to end
Williams hauled in three of four targets for 48 yards Sunday in the Raiders' 31-24 win over the Lions.
Analysis: Even though Derek Carr threw for his second-best yardage total of the season (289), Williams turned in a rather pedestrian outing as the quarterback spread the targets around to nine different pass catchers. Carr's two touchdown passes on the day went to Hunter Renfrow and Foster Moreau, marking the first time that Williams failed to reach the end zone in his six games this season. Better days should be ahead for the former Charger, though he may have a tough time bouncing back on Thursday…read more
