Can't provide enough in loss
Gabbert completed 18 of 29 pass attempts for 165 yards, a touchdown and a pair of interceptions in Sunday's 33-17 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: The Titans asked Gabbert to save their season with Marcus Mariota (elbow) unable to play, but the veteran backup was stifled by the Colts' underrated defense. The 29-year-old spent most of the night hitting his checkdown options, which shouldn't come as a surprise given his "game-manager" style. When he was asked to bring the team back from behind, that's when things got ugly. One of his interceptions was especially poor, as it was nowhere near his intended target and hit a Colts defender in…read more

Starts in place of Mariota
Gabbert will start Sunday night's game against the Colts, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: He gets the nod for the the Titans' win-or-go-home contest, with Marcus Mariota (neck/foot) inactive for the contest. Austin Davis will serve as Gabbert's backup Sunday. A run-heavy attack featuring Derrick Henry seems like a plausible scenario for Tennessee in the team's regular-season finale.

Expected to start vs. Colts
Gabbert is expected to draw the starting assignment Sunday against the Colts with Marcus Mariota (neck) unlikely to be available for the contest, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Mariota suffered a neck stinger in the Titans' Week 16 win over the Redskins that left him "numb and tingly" afterwards, in the quarterback's own words. He only managed two limited practices this week to take a questionable tag into Sunday, and though he's set to go through a pregame warmup prior to the 8:20 p.m. EST kickoff before his status is decided, the Titans are inclined to err on the side of caution. According to the report, an independent spine specialist has warned the Titans that…read more

Preserves victory in relief
Gabbert completed seven of 11 pass attempts for 101 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 25-16 win over Washington.
Analysis: Marcus Mariota (elbow) left the contest near the end of the first half, so Gabbert was asked to lead the Titans to an important comeback victory. The veteran arm has been solid when asked to fill in this season, completing 60 percent of his passes (43 of 72) for 360 yards and three touchdowns. Gabbert is a solid real-life backup, but he won't provide the upside Mariota possesses from a fantasy perspective. The latter's status is still unclear for Week 17's matchup with the Colts, but Gabbert…read more

Sticks in backup role
Gabbert will remain the Titans' backup quarterback for Monday's game against the Texans with starter Marcus Mariota (neck) avoiding an injury designation heading into the contest, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Gabbert looked like a candidate for his second start of the season in Week 12 after Mariota exited last weekend's loss to the Colts with what appeared to be an elbow injury. Mariota had previously missed his lone start due to a nerve issue with his throwing elbow, but he received positive news after the Week 11 contest when it was revealed that he was dealing with a neck stinger that was unrelated to his previous injury. The signal-caller proved his health by turning in full practices Friday…read more

Fills in Sunday
Gabbert completed 11 of 16 passes for 118 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Gabbert entered the game late in the second quarter after Marcus Mariota exited with an elbow injury. His touchdown came in the final moments of the game on a fade to Tajae Sharpe in the corner of the end zone. Though Gabbert showed the ability to connect with a number of different receivers, he also threw an ugly interception and also has a long history of poor play. There's a chance he will be called upon in Week 12 against the Texans, though head coach Mike Vrabel did indicate after the game…read more

Clears concussion protocol
Gabbert cleared the league's concussion protocol Thursday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Gabbert additionally logged his second full practice in a row. The journeyman quarterback is on track to retake his backup position from Austin Davis and will serve as a reserve option behind Marcus Mariota against the Bills on Sunday.

Back at practice
Gabbert (concussion) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gabbert technically remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, but his involvement in full practice suggests it likely won't be long before he gains full clearance. He'll presumably take over the backup duties behind Marcus Mariota in Sunday's game against the Bills after Austin Davis served as the Titans' No. 2 quarterback in the Week 4 win over the Eagles.

Enters week in protocol
Gabbert is still in the concussion protocol, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gabbert was sidelined for Week 4 while nursing a concussion and still hasn't made enough progress to start practicing. He'll need to be free of symptoms by the end of the week to have any chance of suiting up Sunday in Buffalo as Marcus Mariota's backup.

Won't suit up Week 4
Gabbert (concussion) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Eagles, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Gabbert has been in concussion protocol all week, which prevented him from logging a single practice and greatly diminished his chances of suiting up. With Gabbert on the shelf, the recently-signed Austin Davis would serve as the emergency backup if starter Marcus Mariota (elbow) were to come out of the game for any reason.

Iffy for Week 4
Gabbert (concussion) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Given that he didn't practice all week, Gabbert's status for the contest is truly cloudy. In any case, Marcus Mariota's elbow issue will not prevent him from starting Sunday's game, with Austin Davis on hand to serve as the Titans' No. 2 QB this weekend if Gabbert is inactive.

Remains in concussion protocol
Gabbert remained in the NFL's concussion protocol when the Titans resumed practice Wednesday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: If Gabbert is unable to gain clearance from the protocol and suit up Sunday against the Eagles, Austin Davis would likely dress as the understudy to Marcus Mariota. Gabbert had started the previous two games while Mariota managed an elbow injury, but the Titans are confident that Mariota will be able to run the direct the offense effectively in Week 4, according to Wyatt.

Being evaluated
Gabbert remains in the concussion protocol but is being evaluated, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Vrabel elaborated on Gabbert's health Monday, stating "once I get a report from the doctors, and Blaine sees the doctors, we'll have a better idea on what his availability is going to be and what it might look like." Gabbert exited the Titans' Week 3 matchup early in the game, and with Marcus Mariota still battling an elbow injury, he may draw a start Week 4 if he can clear the league's protocol.

Concussion confirmed
Gabbert was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Jaguars due to a concussion, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Gabbert started Sunday's game, but he was only out there long enough to complete one of three pass attempts for eight yards. Initially, the Titans had hoped to rest usual starter Marcus Mariota, who has been dealing with an elbow issue. However, he was forced into action in Week 3, given that Tennessee currently rosters just two QBs.

Suffers possible head injury
Gabbert is under evaluation for a concussion Sunday at Jacksonville, John Glennon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gabbert took a sack and fumbled -- which the Titans recovered -- midway through the first quarter and left the contest, allowing Marcus Mariota (elbow) to make his first appearance since Week 1. As the only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, Mariota will be required to remain in the game unless Gabbert passes his concussion evaluation.

Set to start Sunday
The Titans are planning to start Gabbert on Sunday against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Remains starter until Mariota healthy
Coach Mike Vrabel said Gabbert will remain the Titans' starting quarterback until Marcus Mariota (elbow) is healthy, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Mariota acted as the backup QB during Sunday's win against the Titans due to the lingering effects of a Week 1 elbow injury, which continues to limit certain throws. It appears Vrabel is ready to roll with Gabbert until Mariota gets back to normal. Gabbert fared OK in his spot start Sunday, completing 13 of 20 passes for 117 yards and one touchdown.

Throws for touchdown
Gabbert completed 13 of 20 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 20-17 win over Houston.
Analysis: Gabbert slung a swing pass to Taywan Taylor late in the first quarter, with the latter doing the rest on his way to an 18-yard touchdown scamper. That's about where Gabbert's highlights -- aside from a near completion to himself -- end. The Titans won on Sunday with some trickery, defense, and a conservative offense approach. As the third quarter was winding down, Gabbert still had fewer passing yards than safety Kevin Byard. That, and the fact that Marcus Mariota was healthy enough to dress on…read more

Appears likely to start Week 2
Gabbert has been doing more throwing than Marcus Mariota in pregame workouts and took the first snap of the Titans' 11-man set in warmups, suggesting he's likely in line to start Sunday's game against the Texans, Paul Kuharsky of 104.5 The Zone Nashville reports.
Analysis: The Titans aren't expected to formally name their starting quarterback until minutes before the 1 p.m. EDT kickoff, but all signs point to Gabbert getting the nod, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Mariota, who is managing a right elbow injury, is active for the contest and could draw some snaps even if he doesn't start, which may limit Gabbert's ceiling for production. In the mix to play Sunday
Though Marcus Mariota (elbow) is in uniform for Sunday's game against the Texans, it remains to be seen how much he plays, NFL.com reports. As a result, Gabbert is poised to see action in the contest.
Analysis: Even if Mariota takes the field Sunday he could be limited in such a scenario. It's thus conceivable that the team relies more on Gabbert, with a depleted offensive line to contend with. Neither are high-percentage fantasy plays in Week 2, given the lack of clarity with regard to the duo's playing time.

Could share snaps with Mariota
Coach Mike Vrabel said he expects both Gabbert and Marcus Mariota (elbow) to get playing time in Sunday's game against the Texans, ESPN.com's Turron Davenport reports. "We are evaluating. Marcus is going to do everything he can to get ready, like every player is going to do," Vrabel said after Friday's practice. "I would anticipate both of those guys playing at some point and time."
Analysis: This is shaping up as a situation to avoid for fantasy purposes, especially with the Titans missing both starting tackles for a matchup against a tough defensive front. Mariota was a full practice participant to start the week, but his availability for Sunday came into question after he scaled back to limited participation Thursday and Friday. With Mariota listed as questionable on the final injury report, Gabbert could get his first start in a Tennessee uniform. There's apparently also some…read more

Replaces injured Mariota in Week 1 loss
Gabbert replaced an injured Marcus Mariota (elbow) in Sunday's 27-20, Week 1 loss to the Dolphins. He completed 11 of 22 passes for 117 yards and an interception.
Analysis: Gabbert did manage to lead a touchdown drive capped by a four-yard, Dion Lewis run, but the 2011 first-rounder struggled otherwise. If Mariota's forced to miss extended time, the entire Titans offense will be tough to trust with Gabbert at the helm.

Logs bulk of playing time in preseason loss
Gabbert completed 16 of 24 passes for 158 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Titans' 16-6 preseason loss to the Steelers on Saturday. He also lost a yard on his sole rush.
Analysis: Coach Mike Vrabel afforded Gabbert the most work of his three quarterbacks by far, with Marcus Mariota putting up only eight pass attempts before exiting with 4:03 remaining in the first half. Gabbert looks to be an ideal backup, young enough to still be a viable option if asked to step in yet boasting a solid amount of starting experience on his resume. Gabbert reached an agreement to sign with the Titans on Tuesday, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Titans were searching for an upgrade for their No. 2 quarterback spot after releasing Matt Cassel earlier in March. While not exactly reliable, Gabbert is at least closer to Marcus Mariota in terms of playing style, having run for 440 yards on 94 carries (4.7 average) in 19 appearances for the 49ers and Cardinals the past three seasons. Gabbert will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Following the retirements of quarterback Carson Palmer and head coach Bruce Arians, the Cardinals are starting from scratch from a scheme standpoint, which will be dictated by whoever GM Steve Keim brings in to replace Arians. As such, the quarterback room will have a different look from 2017, with Arians' favorite and unrestricted free agent Drew Stanton (torn ACL) almost certainly out of the picture. Loses job, team turns back to Stanton
Drew Stanton will replace Gabbert as the starter for Week 16 against the Giants.
Analysis: Gabbert showed some promise with five touchdown passes in his first two starts, but he's thrown just one touchdown while taking 20 sacks over the past three games. While the supporting cast has obviously been a huge issue, it's still difficult to put a silver lining on his 55.6 completion percentage, 6:6 TD:INT ratio and league-worst 11.9 percent sack rate (min. 50 attempts). Gabbert struggled in Sunday's 20-15 loss to Washington, completing just 16 of 41 passes for 189 yards and an interception while adding 28 yards on six rushes.
Analysis: Gabbert has been awful over the past two weeks, throwing for fewer than 200 yards in each game while mustering a combined 0:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. It doesn't help that he's been sacked a combined 13 times in that span, as well. With the Cardinals offense stuck in low gear, desperate deep-league owners could be in line for a surprisingly effective outing from the Giants defense next week in Arizona.

The Cardinals are interested in signing Gabbert to a contract extension, Mike Jurecki of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.
Analysis: With Carson Palmer (arm) believed to be considering retirement, Gabbert could be the Cardinals' choice as a short-term bridge while they try to obtain a franchise quarterback. General manager John Keim at one point suggested that Gabbert might actually become that player, but the veteran's performance in four games as the starter hasn't done much to inspire confidence. Gabbert completed 17 of 26 passes for 178 yards while rushing four times for 12 yards during Sunday's 12-7 victory over the Titans.
Analysis: Gabbert struggled to get into a rhythm in the first half, leading his team to just 64 yards of total offense thanks to a number of errant passes and four costly sacks -- including one where Gabbert simply ran out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. Although he failed to reach the end zone before the final whistle, Gabbert proceeded to orchestrate four scoring drives in the second half that just so happened to be enough for Arizona to pull out the victory. Keeping job despite ugly game
Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Gabbert will get another start Week 14 against the Titans, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gabbert didn't make the best case for himself in Sunday's 32-16 loss to the Rams, completing 18 of 32 passes for 221 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also took six sacks, but there's little reason to think Drew Stanton would've fared any better against a Rams defense that excels at defending the pass. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Monday that Gabbert would remain the team's starting quarterback for its Week 13 matchup with the Rams, Mike Jurecki of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.
Analysis: The decision to hand Gabbert his third consecutive start likely wasn't too difficult after the 2011 first-round pick led the Cardinals to an upset victory Sunday over the Jaguars, the team that drafted him with the 10th overall pick. Gabbert was a little loose with the football (one interception, two fumbles) against a tough defense, but completed 22 of 38 passes for 241 yards and two scores while advancing far enough on the Cardinals' final drive for Phil Dawson to kick a game-winning, 57-yard…read more

Gabbert will get another start Week 12 against the Jaguars, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians did leave the door open to switch back to Drew Stanton in Week 13, saying that the veteran quarterback's sprained knee was a factor in the decision. Given that Stanton was available as the backup in Sunday's 31-21 loss to Houston, it would seem the Cardinals' desire to evaluate Gabbert is the larger factor. Analysis: Keim didn't actually provide anything concrete, other than saying that head coach Bruce Arians will make the final decision on whether Gabbert or Drew Stanton (knee) gets the start in Week 12 against the Jaguars. Common sense dictates it will be Gabbert, who completed 22 of 34 passes for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 31-21 road loss to Houston. Analysis: After a quiet first quarter, Gabbert couldn't have looked much better in the middle of the game, connecting with Larry Fitzgerald on a 20-yard back-shoulder touchdown and then a pair of scores to Ricky Seals-Jones. He fell apart late while trying to lead an Arizona comeback, tossing a pair of picks in the game's final seven minutes. Gabbert could get a rare start under center in the Cardinals' Week 11 matchup against the Texans, as replacement starer Drew Stanton is nursing a sprained knee, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Stanton reportedly suffered the injury in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals. Gabbert has not started a game since Week 5 of the 2016 season for the 49ers. It remains to be seen how serious Stanton's injury is, but the practice reps next week should indicate the likelihood of Gabbert actually drawing the start. The team is expected to bring back Matt Barkley for insurance.
